Dr. Michael Akabogu
Dr Michael Akabogu is the Managing Director of Nigeria Social Insurance Trustfund (NSITF) and an accomplished professional with broad operation, budgeting, banking, analysis, risk management, project and initiatives management, audit, monitoring and evaluation experience from the public and private sectors.
He obtained a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Crop Production Technology from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri; an MSC in Finance from the University of Rhode Island, North Kingston, RI in 1997; an MBA in Financial Management/Global Management from the Johnson and Wales University, Providence, RI and a PhD in Financial Mathematics from Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Other certificates include; Project Management Certificate 2004, Bryant University (Executive Development Center) Smithfield, Rhode Island, USA; Certificate (Monitoring and Evaluation) 2008, University of Cape Town, South Africa; Certificate (Strategic Management in Public Service) 2009, Cellucid Consulting Nigeria; Certificate (Project and Programme Management) 2009, RIPA International, London, UK; Certificate (International Borrowing and Debt Management) 2010, International Law Institute, Georgetown University, Washington, DC, USA.
Dr Akabogu’s professional career began as a Manufacturing Technician at Rexam Decorative Specialties Inc, Johnson – RI in 1993. He became a Business Analyst in 1995 providing financial analysis/ad-hoc reporting support to operations among other functions. In 2020, he became a Principal Financial Analyst at RBS Citizens Bank, Providence – Rhode Island and a Branch Manager in 2001. He worked with the Bank of America (Countrywide Bank) Plano – Texas in 2005 as the VP – Financial Planning & Portfolio Analysis.
In Nigeria, he served as a Technical Adviser to the Director General of Debt Management Office, Abuja in 2009. In 2011, he became the Head, Quality Assurance/MIS/Capacity Development at the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning, Abuja before proceeding to the Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Abuja as the Special Technical Assistant (Technical/Administration) to the Honourable Minister.
Dr Akabogu has attended several international trainings and has served as a Government Financial Analyst, Subject Matter Expert and Technical Resource Person in different capacities.
